Open//Closings…
Tonight sees the start of Jamie Shovlin’s Hiker Meat project and the departure of our curator, Josh Thomson as he leaves us to join his wife Laura in Hong Kong.
While I aimlessly clicked my way through Google Translate, looking for something smart to pretend I knew in Chinese, I came across this:
“前事不忘,后事之师 = Past experience, if not forgotten, is a guide for the future.”
Hopefully Josh won’t forget all the awesome things he has brought to us at the Fishmarket, I’m sure we are all the richer for the experience… but just in case you’ve already forgotten, here’s a quick reminder of Mr Thomson at work…
The future looks bright then.

Bicycle Basket Bazaar – April 24th.
Living outside of the town centre, I am reliant on my increasingly unreliable Fiat to ferry me in to work but for Northamptons stalwart troop of Bicycle Basketeers wherever they park becomes their shopfront and, lucky for us, on the last Saturday of every month that means the Fishmarket.

Goby Gallery – April
The Goby is an exhibition space next to the Nook, available to hire on a monthly basis please contact me for further details,
This month The Goby is occupied by Annie Bartley:
Local creative artist, Annie Bartley is showcasing her first exhibition, ‘Remember you’re Real and Remember you’re Not’ at the Goby Gallery in The Fishmarket, Northampton throughout April.
Influenced by the likes of Jackson Pollock and various genres of musical lyrics, Annie, who is bipolar, incorperates poetry and words into her unique creations. Using acrylic paint and marker pens, Annie’s paintings capture moods and feelings that many individuals can relate to.
“Being bipolar has made me express myself using different avenues and I’ve found poetry and painting have been great channels to express my views. This collection is based around the thoughts I had swimming around my head when I first became effected by my condition and fortunately I jotted down everything in diaries so I have been able to go back and extract sentences from them.”
Annie studied Fashion, Media and Promotion at Huddersfield University, receiving a First Class Honours Degree and was nominated for a media and design award at Graduate Fashion Week in 2008.
For more information and to view Annie’s work go to www.wix.com/mysticannie/annie or email Annie at abgraphicdesign@hotmail.co.uk.

Shopping at the Fishmarket
The Fishmarket has been privileged to propagate a priceless retail offer for Northamptons purchasing public over the past four years and as those first participants move on to pastures new, we welcome a peppy portion of proprietors in:
Ama Seka – Amanda Sekayena provides a made to measure clothing service, chose from display pieces or have your old favorites customised.
Skulls and Robots – Local artists Lauren Hubbard and Dan Brodie left their respective studios to open a cool little shop anyone can come into and buy something creative and different from as little as a pound.
Bang Bang Records – Great secondhand and some selected new releases and reissues here. All on lovely fizz poppy vinyl!
And as ever, the Bicycle Basket Bazaar will be visiting on the last Saturday of the month with its usual eccentric assortment of craft and vintage.
